--Perhaps if Karana's father, the chief of Ghalas-at had allowed his people to mix with the hunters and be more friendly there would not have been any killing. What do you think?

--Do you think the Russians entered the harbor knowing in advance they would steal otter and murder the villagers? Why do you think so?

--Do you think the slaughter of her people could have been avoided if Karana's father had simply refused to let the Russians hunt the sea otter in the beginning?
