Today we read about Karana and Rontu's trip into the Black Cave. What do you think the Black Cave was? Why was it there? Think of any place you know of that is similar in any way and describe it. How would you have felt spending the night in a canoe in the Black Cave? Remember to use to details from the story to support your ideas. I think the black cave ancent cave where Karana's ancestors used to meet up. Sort of like a secret hideout! I think it was there for the chiefs, who were her ancestors. I think the black cave is like the hallway in my house at night. More and more rooms come out of there! If I was in the black cave all alone at night I'd be so frightened being in there all alone!

I think the black was were her ancestors hid when the alutes came. And they might of got trapped and died. The black cave reminds me of a gold mine i went to. It was dark just like the black cave!

I think the black cave was where they put the dead chiefs. I also think they might switch the chiefs, for example before Karana`s dad died the cheif right before him was in the cave. One person might have secretly switched the dead chiefs. The black cave is just like one of my friends secret passages in his room that`s really dark. I would be very scared if I was stuck in the black cave but would not be has scared if I had a dog with me.

I think that the Black Cave was a place where the village did religious ceremonies. It reminds me of the storage room in my basement becuase it is very dark in there and has lots of ghostly shadows from old lamps and other things. If i was in the cave all night by myself I would be scared becuase of the skeleton and the fake men. S.Z.A
ReplyDeleteI think the black cave is a cemetery because it has skeletons .When the power goes off it is like the black cave because it is dark and spooky. I would not like to spend the night in the black cave because I would not like skeletons to be watching me all night.

ReplyDeleteI think the black cave was an old cave where they used to bury all the chiefs of Galas-at. I can't really think of anything that I've seen that reminds me of the black cave.if I had to stay in the black cave for a night i would be really frightened in that dark place not knowing what was in there!

I think the black cave was a special place where they kept all the dead cheifs that did something special. So there for, I think that the skelaton playing the flute was her dad. I think the black cave is like the hill in my back yard. There's a bunch of trees that connect to make a hallway shape and there is a huge stump in the middel of it. If I was in the black cave all alone I would be so freaked out that I would not sleep at all!

I think the Black cave was a place where her ancestors use to live because of the skeleton that was there who was playing the flute. And because of all the strange figures in the room.I think that the cave was there because of Karana's ancestors, who may of carved that cave. The place that I know of that's like the black cave is when your in a room and you can't see ! anything at all. And you can't even see your own hand ! If I had to sleep in the Black cave I would be terrifyed ! I just wouldn't be comfortable in there all alone !

I think the black cave used to a village but then a bunch of sand swirled up and hardened and know it is a cave and I think that the stone is sand stone because of the sand it was made of . If I had to be in the black cave for a night I would be the most scared I have ever been in my life!

I think that the black cave is an ancient cave where they keep the skeleton of dead chiefs. That may have been the burial place for special chiefs. I think my bedroom at midnight is like the black cave it is like the black cave because it is pitch black at midnight. If I was in the black cave I don't think I would be able to sleeep with that skeleton and being alone!

I think the cave was a ceremonial place for her ancestors. I think so becuase one skeleton in the cave was playing the flute and I think they might have played the flute at some ceremonies. The black cave sort of reminds me of the downstairs of my house at night because they're both so empty and quiet.

I think that the Black Cave was a ceremonial place honoring her ancestors. I don’t think it was supposed to be scary, because the dolls were decorated nicely. But since Karana was alone and was trapped there overnight, it was scary for her. I think that the black cave might be like a graveyard because it is not supposed to be scary and it is to honor our ancestors.

I think the black cave is where her ancestors lived along time ago. The black cave reminds me of being outside on a dark night without the moon shinning. I would feel really scared being in the cave in a canoe all alone.

I think the black cave was a really old and ancient cave.I think it was so old it was starting to fall apart so sunlight would shine inside.I think the cave was there because it started out as a big rock (bolder) in the ocean that got weathered over time to create a cave.The black cave reminds me of my grandparent's house in the dark, late at night.If I spent the night all alone in the black cave I would be really scared, sitting in a canoe with a skeleton holding a flute,sitting on a ledge staring at me all night.

I also think that because if they had a cave and it was an important cave they would make it special. It would be where they remember people that were important to their life and souls. I think another place close to black cave was coral cove because it is interesting name just like black cave. Also they are both caves. If I had to spend a night in a black cave I would hide in my canoe and close my eyes the whole time.L.A.D.
ReplyDeleteI think the black cave was a secret place where the first chief of karanas tribe went for peace and quiet.it reminds me of a cave called the blue room in kaui.I would be very scared if I had to spend the night in the black cave because the abalone shell eyes on the skelitons would scare me.However I do not think the skeliton playing the flute was Karanas father because in the book it said Karana had not herd of the black cave, and I think Karanas tribe would have told her where they burried her own father. ReplyDeleteI think the Black Cave was where Karana's chief ancestors celebrated special ceremonies for chiefs only. I think it was a secret meeting place for the chiefs of the Island of the Blue Dolphins. The only place that I could think of that is similar to the Black Cave was the 4th book of the Percy Jackson series. It is about a secret underground labyrinth with thousands of rooms, it's so easy to get lost and it is also very dark inside!

I think the Black Cave was a secret place where their ancestors used to live, and where they'd put reminders of their special people who did good things to their people. I also think that Black Cave was there, because years back it was a giant piece of rock, then the water eroded the rock all the way to a large cave. Years later, ancestors came and lived there. After, people said that it was a great place to put reminders of their special people when they die. It reminds me of when we went to Alaska, and went to a long cave mine, and it was very dark. And if I had to stay in the Black Cave over night, then for me that wouldn't be as much fun then playing 6-square out in the daylight.

I think the Black Cave was a place where a tribe once was. The skeleton man who was playing the flute might be her ancestor and the chief of the old tribe. This place reminds me of the time I saw the Pinnacle Cave. If I were Karana, I would be very scared to be in the Black Cave, especially with the skeletons, pure darkness and the way the old chief played songs on his flute.

I think that the black cave was once a place where other tribes had lived a long time ago. The skeleton man was proboy someone trying to watch over her. The black cave kind of reminds me of a scary dark ride I once went on. If I were Karana Iwould stay hidden there

I think the black cave is a dark black cave. What else would it be? I think it was there because it kept the ocean from over flowing. I bet it had something to do with the ocean tides. I would feel very scared if I had to spend the night in the black cave because it is pitch black and I have not idea what is in there. I do not know of such a place either. J.C.
