Jack and Praiseworthy are on an adventure. Answer one of these questions thoroughly (be sure to make clear which question you are answering), meaningfully respond to at least one other post and remember to edit your work!

Your posts are part of your grade so work carefully and do you best!

1. Why would someone want to be a stowaway?
2. If your ship became becalmed, what might you do?
3. Describe what you might see if you were sitting in the crow's nest of the Lady Wilma.
4. In a letter home, Jack states that although he isn't in school, he is learning every day. What is Jack learning on the Lady Wilma?

  1. I would be a stowaway if that was the only to California.
Another reason is so I don't have to pay to get on the ship. This would give me money for supplies in California. It would also be exciting. You could make it a game, don't get caught!

  2. 3)If I was in the crow's nest of the Lady Wilma, I think I'd see many things. Here are some I'd see:
    - going-to-be-rich miners pigging out
    - chefs making big pots of soup
    - James and Priesworthy working hard
    - The captian's mustache going from flames, then freezing again!

That's what I'd see abord the Lady Wilma!

  3. Why would someone want to be a stowaway? None really wants to be a stowaway but if you don't have the money to get a real ticket, and you really nead to get on that place then you might have to be one.

  6. Someone would want to be a stoaway because they could sneek onto a ship without having to pay for bording it. Also if you are seeking gold and have no transportation you could be a stoaway.

  7. Someone might want to be a stowaway if he has to get to a very important place and doesn't have enough money to buy a ticket even though it will be a very rough and uncomfortable long time with no food or water unless that person could find something he/she can eat or drink, but it might not last that person the whole way but a least he will have a chance to get to the place he needed to be. Except if that person has enough money to buy a ticket, and it won't do a lot of damage on him/her, that person might want to buy that ticket and have a more comfortable trip.

Even though I did a different question (question #1), I was thin king about the you did too. I thought the exact thing that you posted for your blog post. It felt like you were blog posting while I was thinking. It felt weird kind of.

  11. I would be a stowaway if I had to get to another state and someone stole my money. I would want to get them back by taking theirs, if I lived in those times. I would never steel now. The people would half to be brave to stowaway, because they could get caught and thrown over board the ship or worked to death.

  12. Question #1
why I would want to be a stowaway is because of many reasons. I will share with you one of my reasons. My one reason is that if you were a stowaway is that you would be able to get into something, in this case Jake and Praisworthy were able to get into the Lady Wilma without paying.

  14. I think someone would like to be a stowaway because maybe they can't afford to go somewhere. It may be important for Jack and Praiseworthy to be stowaways because someone took their money and they had to get on the boat somehow. Another example, was that it was important for Jack and praiseworthy to get on the boat because their house was losing money. They heard about the gold rush and wanted to find gold.

  15. I agree with S.K.H because I'm guessing that a stowaway would not want to be a stowaway, but they probably didn't have the money to get tickets.

  16. I would be a stowaway if I really needed to help my aunt keep living in her house. Another reason to be a stowaway is if someone took your money and you want them punished for taking your money. The two down sides to being a stowaway are you have an uncomfortable place to hide and if you get caught you might walk the plank. Overall if I was in this position I`d chose to be a stowaway.

  17. #1 Someone would want to be a stowaway because if he or she did not have any money they could sneak into the ship without paying. Also, if they have only enough money to buy food and supplies in California, they would want to save their money and not use it on the ships fare. I think people should only be stowaways if they had no other choice and pay for the fare by doing work for the ship

  20. 1)I would want to become a stowaway because if the trip is important to my family, to me and the future of my life. I could also pretend to be a paid passenger after they board everyone. It might be hard to sneak by, but if I had to be a stowaway I would.

  21. QUESTION#3
If I were in the crows net of the Lady Wilma I might see a shark swimming around hunting for some food, or even a giant humpback whale swimming underneath the Lady Wilma. There might also be a chance that on our way we may find a pod of dolphins rounding up their food also.

I fully agree that someone would not want to be a stowaway. I liked how you described the question. I also liked how you gave an example of a problem that someone on the same ship as Jack and Praiseworthy could have.

  24. A reason why people may want to be stowaway is because they don’t have to pay money to go on the ship. Another reason why is because they can pretend to not to be a stowaway and have free food and water. Two more reasons are that you can pretend not to be a stowaway and get a free bed and the final reason is that if you are thirsty for a adventure this would be a good choice.

  31. Someone might want to be a stowaway if they can't afford to buy a ticket or if they are running away from somewhere or someone and they don't want to get caught. I think it would be really hard to be stowaway because you have to spend the whole time hiding from everyone else on the ship and those voyages can be long......

  32. Question #1
Why would someone want to be a stowaway?
Someone would want to be a stowaway because you don't have to pay. They would also have adventure. If you paid to go on the ship then you would have less money for mining supplies, but stowaways didn't need to pay.
Everything would be good --unless you got caught.

  38. I am answering number 4. Jack is learning How to become a man. In the story when Prasworthy and Jack told the captain that they were the stowaways the captain had Prasworthy work on one side of the ship and Jack on the other side to work off their ticket, but Jack said no because they were a team. So the captain made them both work in the boiler room shoveling coal. They are both learning how to be men by working hard. I love this book so far!!!
