By the Great Horn Spoon! The Sequel!!

Ruination! The book is over and we have nothing to read! It's up to you to come up with a sequel to the book by Sid Fleishman. Your job is to write a summary of the "new book" to interest readers. Be sure your summary is about 200 words and that you proofread your work. You are writing historical fiction that is age appropriate for fourth graders. I can't wait to read your ideas!

  1. The Golden family is a sequel to the book “By the Great horned spoon.
It is a fantastic book about a family in the 1840’s. In this book aunt Arabella, Praiseworthy, Jack, Constance, and Sarah decide to build a cabin in Hangtown. One day Jack and Praiseworthy go back to the diggings and hit the jackpot. While they carry it back to their cabin they spot a tall man about 6 feet tall, they walk past him and he takes their gold nuggets and dust! They run after him but he was to fast that they couldn’t catch up to him. Finally, they stopped running and tried to figure out who the man was. This book is a very well written book by Sid Fleishman. To red more about this you will have to buy the book at a local bookstore near you. When you buy this book I hope you enjoy it as much as my friends and I do. Remember tell all of your friends to read it too and if you don’t believe that it’s a great book look for reviews and then and then you will believe me. Thank you for reading this, bye and have a nice day.

Later Mrs. Jackson and aunt Arabella become good friends and make a cooking business that becomes very popular because woman usually know how to cook better. Meanwhile Jack and Praiseworthy and the girls buy back stub and meet up with Cut Eye Higgins and this time he is pretending to be a doctor because he was going to be hung again. Once he was about to be hung jack and praiseworthy made a deal that they would get him out of the hanging if he payed them 100 dollars he excepted the offer and praiseworthy made a distraction while Jack got Cut eye Higgins away. Once they got their money they bought aunt Arabella a present a brand new dress! She loved it so much that she wore it for 5 days! Later Sara is surprised when she finds a little dog on their porch she brings him in and asks aunt Arabella if she can keep him aunt Arabella said yes, and the dog that was now named Molly was a part of the family the dog was a hard worker and sometimes caught rabbits for dinner. 4. After the gold had run out Arabella, Praiseworthy, Jack, and Jack's two sisters decided to start a rancho. They had planted corn, potatoes, lettuce, carrots, and tomatoes. Jack and his family would tend and care for their ranch. They would water it and pick the weeds. They were doing so good they decided to sell their crops. One day business was slow, so Praiseworthy decided to look for a nice chicken to have for dinner, but instead he found a bear. A giant bear! He ran all the way home and told Arabella all about it. She was glad Praiseworthy was ok. They decided to skip dinner and go strait to bed. They were so tired they did not hear the great big bear eating all the crops. When Arabella woke up the next morning the crops were either gone, stomped on, or dead. The bear had driven them out of their home! After a long time of thinking Jack and Praiseworthy decided to go work on the railroad. It was a very dangerous job but Arabella was fine with it because they didn't have any money. Jack and Praiseworthy set out to help build the railroad the next day. Arabella was right it was a dangerous job. They had to be careful not to blow their heads off when setting the explosives. At the end of the the job they did such great work they got to put in the last spike. They became famous and got all their money back and everyone was happy.

This is the story about Jack and Praiseworthy after the book By the Great Horn Spoon. Praiseworthy, Jack, Constance, Sarah, and Aunt Arebella had built a cabin by Jack and Praiseworthy’s favorite mining camp. It was indeed Hangtown. They had picked a spot next to a claim that was owned by Tricky Taylor. He agreed that women and children should be able to live at a mining camp. They liked it there in California. Every day, Jomoka Jack and Bullwhip mined for gold. There wasn’t much left but, they taught Constance and Sarah how to mine. Aunt Arebella loved listening to them and all the stories that Praiseworthy and Jack told. Each night, they would have ether steak(If Jack didn’t get chased by the bear), potatoes, beans and bread. Once a month, they would go out to dinner to a very nice and fancy restaurant. Sometimes if they were lucky, Tricky Taylor would bring them a care package to see how they were doing. In Boston, Jack used to go to school and he didn’t for almost a year! So, Aunt Arebella Started a school with all grades and made a lot of money doing that. Every day she would be a teacher to over 400 kids! That’s a lot! They had a happy life in California. And they will for the rest of their lives

  6. In book two of The Great Horn Spoon I think that Praiseworthy, Jack, Constance, Sarah and Arabella strike rich panning for gold. Then Praiseworthy hears a rumor that they had caught Cut Eye Higgins. And he only had hours left to live. The ceremony was at twelve midnight and Praiseworthy and Jack planned to sneak out to see it. They headed towards the ceremony and rushed through the crowd. They saw Cut Eye Higgins standing there with a noose around his neck. Praiseworthy questioned himself and said "I was the reason he escaped last time and I am not going to let it happen again. So let's get on with it I don't want to see any more." Yes the crowd agreed. Yes said the stranger seen but not to be known. From then on, the crowd of people began chanting and chanting and swore they wouldn't stop until he was dangling by his neck. "This is not a good scene", said Jack looking up at Praiseworthy. They both headed out. They walked into a store with the crowd chanting louder than anyone has ever experienced. All of a sudden the crowd started to get quiet. Then Jack and Praiseworthy figured it was over and there was no going back now.

When they finally connected the two tracks at Promontory Utah and Jack and Praiseworthy celebrated with the other workers. Jack had enough of adventure and returned to the digging to be with his sisters and Aunt Arabella. He discovers that his eldest sister Constance got married. Cut Eye Higgins is back in book 2! He is planning to capture Jack and send him to work for the railroads in Utah. He will send him by ship from California to Utah. Also, Praiseworthy is coming back stronger with his new nickname Bullwhip. Now he’s ready to face more fights, unlike book one. His lovely wife Aunt Arebella, she’s ready to take on the gold mines. However, everyone is still trying to fight Praiseworthy, but things aren’t looking good. People are now getting hurt. In one fight, Praiseworthy is watching his opponent carefully when Cut Eye Higgins comes from the back and takes Jack like he had planned. Praiseworthy found out that Cut Eye Higgins had kidnapped Jack so he went looking for them. He had heard they were on a boat so he set out to find them. He looked through every boat which lead to many adventures until he finally found the boat. When praiseworthy found Cut Eye Higgins, he challenges Cut Eye Higgins for a fist fight . Then Jack steps into the fight. Will he survive? If he looses Jack will and his family will have to move back to Boston. What will Aunt Arebella think?

After the kids fail many times, they realize that the cabin was robbed. Nobody noticed because everyone was busy either fighting or resolving. (He always thinks of plans.) They also see some people from the first book. 10. Jack and his family made a log cabin near the diggings. With all that money, they got from selling the cats they could buy a lot of food, protection like guns, and water which was very expensive. Jack loved the new life with Praiseworthy, Constance, Sarah, and Aunt Arabella. Praiseworthy had changed in some ways. He was first a butler and was very formal, then a little bit went away. Jack and Praiseworthy had given up mining and opened a cat shop. A lot of people had rat problems so they wanted cats to eat them. They found that their friend Dr. Buckbee was broke so they let him come in the job. One day while they were out looking for cats, someone on horseback stopped them. It was Cut Eye Higgins. Jack took out his gun and was ready. But Cut Eye Higgins did not have the bad look on his face. He was a good person! Praiseworthy had nothing to fear until Mountain Ox said he wanted a rematch in fisticuffs. Aunt Arabella was not happy but Praiseworthy convinced her. Mountain Ox knew Praiseworthy’s old tricks of dogging, but Praiseworthy was reading The Art of Boxing 2. He learned some new tricks and won the match! Jack was so happy!

Although the river didn’t have much gold.

One day there was a horrible hurricane roaring outdoors, it pouring. Aunt Arabella, Constance and Sarah were knitting scarves for every one. Jack and praiseworthy were keeping the fire alive. Jack had gone out to fetch some wood and spotted a huge tornado coming their way. Jack quickly ran inside to warn his family. When they were told everyone packed up their most precious belongings. They were about to walk out the front door but it burst to pieces. So they went through the back door as the tornado trailed closely behind them.

  15. This book is called The Great Horn Spoon too. This book is about Praiseworthy, jack, Mrs.Arabella, Constance, and Sarah go to the diggings and build a cabin for women, children, and men. They also made the diggings a place for women and children. While digging they struck it rich ten times more than the last. Their family is rich now! Now there house is the finest house in the diggings. Later in the book they go back to Boston to see relatives. It was a shorter distance for when they came to San Francisco because they took the Panama Canal.

When they got there they delivered the news and the relatives decided to sell their house and go to California with Praiseworthy, Mrs. Arabella, Jack, Constance, and Sarah. When they got there they used the new money to build another few more cabins. Then everybody at the mines was digging. Back then it was really hard to get a stake.

Then, they went to San Francisco to see what has changed after a few years. They were astonished San Francisco had built a bridge in ten years called The Golden Gate Bridge. San Francisco had changed a lot in the last few years now it was beautiful. Then they went back to the diggings and lived a happy life.

  16. Jack, Praiseworthy, Constance, and Aunt Arabella all go on an amazing trip to find a rare plant to help Sarah with her terrible bad illness. Jack, Praiseworthy, Constance, and Aunt Arabella all go on a trip. On the trip they travel by ship, but on there way they run into a terrible storm that causes them to go off course, and they end up in Mexico. It was late at night once they got there and they had to hurry to help Sarah.
When they were sleeping Jack noticed that there was a plant that he had never seen before so they asked a person in town to tell them if it was a rare plant, and the plant was rare, and it was called a "Neches River Rose.” Now Jack, Praiseworthy, Constance, and Aunt Arabella need to know that Sarah is O.K, so they send someone back to California to take care of her. After a few days of staying in Mexico they need to get back to Sarah before something bad happens. Now it’s all up to Jack, Praiseworthy, Constance, and Aunt Arabella to get back in time to before it's too late, and something terrible happens to Sarah.

  17. Since Aunt Arabella and the others came out, when Jack and Praiseworthy went to the diggings miners from all over stared as they walked by. They asked lots of questions like, when every body came, what ship, where they came from, what were they doing in the diggings, and what were the new people’s names. Jack liked all the attention. Eventually Jack & Praiseworthy had enough gold to buy wood and build a cabin. They spent a lot of time and work on it. They made the cabin with two rooms one was just like a bedroom, but quite large, and the other was to store gold. It really was a nice cabin, it was even just a few minutes from the diggings!

While Praiseworthy and jack were at the diggings, Aunt Arabella, Sarah, and Constance all did work around the cabin. Sometimes they even added new things with the gold they had stored! Praiseworthy and Jack even bought Stub back! The cabin soon had cupboards that stored the leftover food, so they didn’t just have to keep buying. Soon everyone got used to the cabin, and some times after a day’s work they even had visitors! From here a new adventure begins!

Then Praiseworthy and Jack took the baby home and the family lived happily ever after.

  19. Praiseworthy and Jack had just finished building their new lodge for Aunt Areabella, Constance, Sarah and for themselves. It was a hot summer day, everyone was bathing by the creek, and all the gold in the river was swept away by the miners like the wind. Tomorrow, they would settle in their new home in California. It really was the sweetest life a man could want. The perfect temperature and the perfect place. ‘It was so peaceful here.’ thought Praiseworthy as he lay in grass. But it was hard these days because the family that Praiseworthy raised just didn’t have enough money.

Praiseworthy had to find a job and soon or else his family would starve. So one day, Praiseworthy was just walking around Hang Town and then he saw a sign, it said: Railroad workers for the new Central Pacific railroad! Now Hiring! ‘This was the best job to have.’ Thought Praiseworthy. So he ran home to tell Aunt Areabella and Jack.

When Praiseworthy came home 2 things happened, one he was out of breath and two when he told his story about his job and everyone gasped. But they all approved, it would be a great job for Praiseworthy.

  20. The rollicking adventures of Jack and Praiseworthy continue in "By the Great Horn Spoon Two!". The wedding of Praiseworthy and Arabella in San Francisco was a beautiful beginning of this family's new joint ventures in the Gold Rush Days. As might be expected, Praiseworthy studied the law books and became a well-known lawyer for the miners in Hangtown. His reputation as "Bullwhip" brought him such notoriety that his practice boomed like a gold mine. Arabella and Jack opened a fine hotel where the family lived together. Sarah an Constance assisted in making it a top-notch place. Many interesting guests and fascinating stories follow this family in the sequel, "By the Great Horn Spoon Two!" It's a great follow-up book. Read it!

  21. In the great horn spoon (2) praiseworthy builds a house by the diggings and the family lives together again. They find a big thief named cut eye Higgins. He was a cutpurse. They found him and had a big fisticuff with him and praiseworthy won. Praiseworthy made a jail for him to live in for ever and ever. Aunt Arbela was disappointed that he did not throw away the book of how to fight. Aunt Arbela put a complete stop to the coffee drinking and was called no coffee for Jack. Praiseworthy got a new name of thief trapper. They strike it rich and are the first to have a mansion. They become the richest people ever in town. Everybody knew them because of how rich and wise they are. Everybody asked for advice from them. They also created a Frisbee that flew two hundred feet far and liked it forever. Praiseworthy became the best boxer in history. They all felt perfect. They all were fine. They usually stayed in their mansion, but sometimes they ended up traveling very far distance every once in a while. This was because of the train. They all thought it was the best idea ever.

  22. Jack, Praiseworthy, Constants, Sarah and aunt Arabella took their two cats and went to the diggings. There they built a cabin with a fence around it. The cats ventured up trees and onto the roof tops and even across the river. Jack and Praiseworthy went mining for gold every day. Many miners challenged Praiseworthy. None beat him.

People started farming and making a lot of money so, the family started farming. They also started a granary like Jon Sutter’s granary. They made lots of money and got lots of cats and kittens to auction off. They always kept four cats or kittens. They fished in the river every day to feed themselves and the cats. The cats fished for themselves sometimes and they also ate the rats that tried to eat their food. The cats roamed around town a lot they also liked to steel fish from the auctioneer mostly tuna. One day Jack’s cat coughed up a lot of rat that ate some color or gold dust. The gold dust was worth forty dollars. Jack bought a riffle with the money. The cat got fed extra the next few nights.

Jack and Praise worthy started using a cradle to mine for gold because they thought it was easier to mine with a cradle . One time they accidentally left their cradle in the river and the next day there was a big nugget in the cradle.
