Happy New Year!
We just got back from two weeks off school. Please write about your family celebration, vacation, a favorite gift or activity...write about anything you want to share with your classmates. You need to write at least 125 words. Please write your first draft using WORD or another application so you can count your words, edit your work then cut and paste into your blog comment. To get your word count in MS Word, go to tools-> word count and it will tell you how many words you have typed. Be sure to check for spelling, grammar and punctuation. By the way, this is a picture of Mr. McConnell and me with our dog. I took the picture with the new digital camera that I got for Christmas! I also got lots of math books...we read one in class today. My parents, a cousin and my Aunt Gladys (who taught at Saratoga Elementary about 50 years ago) joined us for a special dinner. We had a nice Christmas at home and then traveled to Texas to take care of some family business. We are really looking forward to a healthy and happy 2011.

The first thing that happened during my Winter break was going to Lake Tahoe, my whole family went to Tahoe except my mom we all had a great time we skied at a mountain named Alpine Meadows. While my family was having lots of fun my mom was secretly buying a dog from Minnesota. When my brother, sister and I found out that are mom had bought a type of dog called a cockerpoo we named him Quin. When we got the dog I almost forgot that my Uncle, Aunt, and two cousins that are 2 years old and one that is only 5 months old. The day that my relatives got to my house it was Christmas so we opened present my 3favorite presents where a camera, a ping-pong table and an I-pad. My family and I went skiing again when we got back I went my friends house I slept over at their house it was so fun!!! The very next day I went to another friends house and we had a big water fight. ReplyDeleteOn my break I got to go to the Santa Cruz Board Walks with my family. My mom took us to The Jungle Islands to play laser tags. Christmas Eve at Grandma's house was fun. We had so much food and fun. We spent Christmas Day at our home. I played with the new games I got for Christmas. I got Nerf guns too and it is awesome. I got to sleep in until 11:00 am almost everyday. It was hard to wake up early this morning. Z.S.P.
ReplyDeleteOn my winter break, my family and I had Christmas at our house and then went up to my grandparents cabin. My four cousins came up too. My cousins, brother, and I played up there and it was really fun. Then we had a Christmas dinner. My grandparents and my dad cooked a ham, mashed potatoes, and some cranberry sauce. It was really delicious! Then we had a big snowball fight, parents against the kids. My dad, uncle, and my other uncle played for the parents and two of my cousins, my brother, and I played for the kids. My other cousin, Julian, didn't play because he is only two years old.The fight lasted 30 minutes and the kids won! (We had a snowball making machine and we made a lot of snowballs before the fight. That's one reason we won. Also on our side we had really hard snow so when it hit them it hurt a lot). After a few days we left to go back home. I had a awesome and fun time on my Christmas break!

My winter break was very exciting. On Saturday my family and I went to Kirkwood in Lake Tahoe for three days, but my brother, Austin, stayed back for two more days. After that, I went rock climbing with my friend, but the day after I had fever and it was the day before Christmas Eve! Turns out I was sick that Christmas, but once I woke up I still could run as fast as any child to see what Santa left me. On Christmas night, I went to my Auntie’s house to celebrate with the whole family. We popped party poppers, had dinner, and exchanged gifts. Soon, New Year’s Eve came and my family and I went up to Pleastington for a party. Since the drive is so long we all just slept over. If next year’s winter break is like this, I’ll be very tired for school.

My winter vacation was the best! I love Christmas and Santa and ho ho ho and the other Christmas things but what I like the most is the preparation. This year our preparation included tree hunting, tree decorating, decorating the house, putting up the lights, Christmas parties and celebrations, and lots of hot cocoa. This year like always, we went up to the Santa Cruz Mountains to cut down our tree. Our tree was probably the best tree we have ever gotten. It was so full and green it looked like one in a picture book. We thought that was amazing, but we did not know what we were in for next. The tree looked even more amazing with the decorations. But even that tree didn’t look as magical as our house with its lights and decorations. We had many Christmas parties to go to, most of which were with my cousins. My favorite was seeing the world famous Rocketts in their Christmas spectacular. It was breathtaking. As you can see, my Christmas preparations were a bunch of fun!

Right when school was out my family and I went straight to Newport for four days. We had fun but there were stormy seas and it rained a lot. Sometimes there were gray skies. We really went out of the house just to eat. The title of my trip to Newport was eating their spectacular food. Finally, we got home after being stuck for 2 hours at the airport.
ReplyDeleteAfter it was christmas it had finally come at last The day was too good to last. It was Christmas Eve when we all were in bed from having a party. It was fantastic! I got cool things at the party because I was older now. But so sad they had to leave because it was almost Christmas. So me and my brother went to bed and a little bit later in the night I heard feet and I thought it was my dog. When it was morning, I also got many great presents. It was the best Christmas ever in my life. This christmas was something special!

My winter brake was awesome! My journey of Christmas Brake started by visiting my grandma Jean and playing dominoes with my grandpa Larry. Then I went to my Grandma and Grandpa Hansen’s and saw all of my dad’s side relatives and also opened presents. There, I saw my cousin Hunter who is my age and is a lot of fun. Next, I went to my great Grandma Cora’s. There, I saw my Grandpa Ron too. Then, I had to go to bed because it was Christmas Eve. In the morning, I was surprised when I saw that Santa Clause had brought me a Giant TV!! Then, the day after Christmas, I went to my Uncle Ron’s and saw all of my relatives in my Mom’s side. There, we opened more presents and I also saw my cousin Melanie who is also my age and a lot of fun, like Hunter. The next day, I had to go to Tahoe and spend my days with my baby cousin Hazel, and her Mom and Dad, who are my Uncle and Auntie. In those snowy blizzard days, I decided to cuddle up in my cozy cabin, go skiing, and go sledding. Sadly, Christmas Break was over. Although I did not have fun waking up on the first day of school, I am back to normal now and I am loving school.

Ham,mashed potatoes,and cranberry sauce sounds good . Snowball fight now that rocks, it might even sounds better than eating the feast you had. It sounded so much fun to do and it lasted for 30 minutes. Wow that must of been a great fight. Cool thats great to hear the kids won. I think you're right that sounds like a great break.

Over winter break lots of fun things happened!!! First, my relatives came out that was fun! We went to petroglyph and out to lunch. I painted a penguin. Next, we were at home watching movies like Fred Claus, Despicable me, and Christmas carol. Then we went to the playroom to watch some Christmas specials. There were specials for all of our favorite shows!!! Soon after I was playing some nice songs on the piano. The songs were just strutting along and mist. Days went by and we did more fun things like playing computer and DS. Soon it was Christmas and we opened presents I got a rock tumbler, Candy man (it’s a candy machine), a Little Big Planet Doll, and a DSIxl which can take cool photos.

Over the holidays I did many things. On the first week of the vacation we visited my grandparents house and we played games and stayed over for lunch. We did that for the majority of the week because my parents were still at work. On Friday we started preparing for Christmas eve dinner. I had to help with the cooking and help set the table for the buffet. There was going to be at least 9 people at the party so my mom decided to have buffet to save room. The next day on Christmas we opened presents and played. That night we also had a sleepover. On new years eve we had another dinner party. This time there was at least 13 people there. We watched the new year celebrations on the news. Then we played some games and the guests left. S.Z.A
ReplyDeleteI had a wonderful Christmas! My grandparents came. They gave us tons of presents. On Christmas Eve I got mind flex, remote control helicopter, itouch 4th generation and a lot of other things. Mind flex is, you move the ball with your mind to over obstacles. The remote control helicopter had an open side so you could see the gears working and it was made of metal. The next day, Christmas day my uncle came to dinner with his wife. He even tried mindflex. And on Monday I got a sewing machine! It has forty different stitches to choose from.

On Christmas Eve about 11 p.m., my family started opening our presents. The first gift I opened was a Toy Story video game. Next I got a Wii game of Sonic and the Secret Rings and a wrestling action figure of Avec Ring. I also got a cool basketball shooting game so I can practice my skills. Another gift I received was a Buzz Lightyear flashlight. Last, but not least my aunt's family gave me two WWE action wrestling figures of The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin, and the Intercontinental Championship toy with a DVD movie of The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin battling for the Intercontinental Championship. All together I got six presents. When we finished opening the presents, we stayed up late playing with everything until we had to say, "Goodnight!"

Winter vacation was very busy. First, I played a lot of video games. My hockey game is very challenging. Finally, I figured out how to win. Next, I had a Winter Classic hockey tournament. We went to the championship and got second place. I got four goals and 2 assists. Everybody on the team got a medal. Finally, my family had a New Year's party. There were about twenty people there. The boys played video games until dinner. For dinner we had tacos and quesadillas. You got to make your own taco or take one already made. After dinner we went outside and played hide and go seek tag in the pitch black night. It was so much fun. My two week break was awesome.

XBox, the new call of duty black ops, a Rc car, two airsoft guns, and Xbox Live. I played call of duty black ops all day on X box Live. I also played with my airsoft guns. I am working on the rc car right now. Then we had a new year party. When my cousins were there we jumped on my trampoline.I kept on getting double bounced that was fun! Next my cousin and i played call of duty black ops, i am so good at that game. Then we had dinner, we had ham, potatoes,vegetables,and rolls.

On my winter break I did many many things.
ReplyDeleteFirst I went to my grandmas house, and my sister went to her best friends house to go see the nutcracker. The next day I had to leave my grandmas house to go pick-up my sister,and after that we went back to my grandmas house on Saturday.
My grandpa makes fantastic chocolate ice-cream and I get to have that for desert including my grandmas famous cookies. Plus I got to stay up till 11:00 watching lots of movies.
Later the next early morning and stayed for three whole days. the three days that she was there we played lots of games including the game called charades.On the last night on December 23 it became my birthday!
On my birthday I got up early to the noise of balloons, and then the whole family came in and started spraying silly string

My brothers and I got to go see some movies at the theater. I enjoyed hanging out with my dad watching sports on the television. Another best thing during the break was that my mom made us some Belgian waffles and French crepe with any fillings you could think of. My favorite was the smoke salmon crepe. Overall, I had a great 2 weeks break and I hope we will get another long break soon.

I loved my winter break! First, my family and I drove up to South Lake Tahoe on Saturday afternoon at around 3:30pm. I thought since the weather was starting to get really bad, dark, and slippery, that my mom or dad was going to say to me that we wouldn’t make it up to the steep hills of Lake Tahoe in this rain. We might have to stay at a hotel for the night because of the bad weather. But, to my surprise, we didn’t stop at a hotel, instead we raced straight to South Lake Tahoe in record time of 4 hours and 30 minutes! Usually, it would take us 5 hours because of the traffic but since a lot of people were scared of the bad weather they didn’t come up Saturday. I think a lot of people came up Sunday, but, I found out that a power line fell really hard onto the ground that they had to stop the road traffic in order to fix it. Meanwhile my family and I had a great time skiing in the snow at Heavenly Ski Resort. The bad part about Sunday was that it was snowing really hard and it was reported that the winds went up to 30 mph!! Maybe even 40 mph in some places! Since the winds were very strong that day, they closed the Ski Resort at 2:00 pm instead of 4:00 pm. But we all had fun anyway.

For my winter break, I stayed home and played games. My Mom always lets us open one present before Christmas and then we opened a Xbox 360. On Christmas my oldest brother came over. I was really happy to see him. He’s really fun to be with. For Christmas he gave me and my other brother some games for the Xbox. My favorite presents were the Xbox, madden11, a Cowboys Jersey, a mouth guard, and football gloves. On that same day I gave our present to my oldest brother. A PS3. He was really happy.

This winter break, I had a blast! First of all, I had the best Christmas ever! I had a brunch with my grandma. Then we got to open all of the presents! (That was my favorite part!) My favorite ones were my DSI, hoolahoops, a pretty black and white dress, and a silver necklace. I also liked giving gifts. I gave Maya, my older sister the whole collection of original Smencils. She really liked it! Also, I gave my mom a handmade coffee mug made by me at Petroglyph. It was her most absolute favorite color green on it, and had many beautiful designs. When I gave it to her she was very stunned and impressed. That day we watched movies had a very scrumptious feast. I really Love Christmas!

Two days after Christmas my sister and my two cousins and I set off on an adventure to Minnesota. In the morning we met our cousins at the hotel. Then we took a shuttle to the airport with my grandma and my grandpa and cousins. We flew for one hour and a half and missed our connecting flight in Phoenix. We were delayed by two hours. When we arrived in Minnesota it was pitch black outside. Although it was late, we still played in the snow. Then we hit the sack. The next day, we went sledding in the morning and I built a snow fort. We played in the snow most of the day. We went to bed really late the second night because of the two hour time difference. We went to the Mall of America the third day. There was a ferris wheel and roller coaster in the middle of the mall. I went on a super scary roller coaster with my grandpa and my cousin who is eight. The Mall of America is amazing!! We had a delicious and fun lunch at the Rainforest Café in the mall. On the fourth day, we went to my great grandma’s apartment and visited with her. She is 95 years old. When we went back to our hotel we played in the snow and got ready for a party. At the party, I met first cousins, second cousins and relatives that I didn’t even know existed. We played games and ate at the party. The next morning we got on a plane and came home to the people that we missed most. I was sad I had to leave Minnesota but happy to see my mom and dad.

During break my family went to Las Vegas for a few days. We took an one and a half hour flight from the San Francisco airport on Southwest Airlines. That part of the trip was really boring but the rest was great! When we got there it was really fun.
ReplyDeleteWe went to two shows. The first show was Blue Man Group. The Blue Man Group is about the three blue guys who do music, tricks, and all sorts of funny stuff. The second show we went to was Cirque du Soleil. That show was called Love and was done with music by the Beatles. The show was amazing because it had all sorts of actors doing different awesome things. Some people did tricks on high wires. Others did awesome tricks with roller blades and trampolines.
Another cool thing about Las Vegas is that they have lots of fake things like the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building and even the Statue of Liberty. And you can even go through the canals of Venice on the second floor of a hotel. Las Vegas is like the whole world in one place.

We had a fun time celebrating Chanukah. The first night was the best. First, I ate a yummy dinner. Second, we lit the hanukia (menorah). Third, we got a Wii! For my break, I went to St. Louis. It was a lot of fun! First, we saw my grandpa named Lewis. We sneaked in his house and surprised him because he did not know we were in St. Louis. We talked a little and then went out for lunch. The next day I went ice skating with my friend Conner. Next, we went to his cool house. His basement even had a place to play hockey. When I got back home my friends came over and celebrated New Years with us. I had a great time this December.

For Christmas I got the new ipod touch. I downloaded soooo many cool apps for it. One of my favorite apps on it is called angry birds. It’s so much fun! When I went to San Diego for Winter break I played on it so so so so so so so so so sooo much! I mostly went on the internet and listened to music on it. I also downloaded 2 (two) apps where you cook and bake cupcakes and cakes. I played it about twenty times! I also downloaded lots of videos and music! Since I got my new ipod touch my sister got to have my old one.she put lots of movies and stuff on hers. I also got a new case for it.

Some of the hight lights of my winter break were Christmas, New Years and New Years Eve and the Nutcracker. Those things are what we are going to talk about. On Christmas Day we have a tradition that we walk down the hall youngest to oldest to our stockings. (we always open our stockings first.) After that we open the presents from under the tree. I got a lot of cool things but I also gave a lot of cool things too. When we were done opening presents we had breakfast. We always have cinnamon rolls and berries for breakfast on Christmas Day. Next we had a surprise. We were going to my grandmas house and surprising all the cousins, so we flew in an airplane down to my grandmas house for Christmas. We got there and all of the cousins were surprised. Everyone was so happy. We had a great dinner on a very long table with everyone. When we were done eating we did karaoke. We had lots of fun on Christmas. On New Years Eve and New Years Day we had lots of fun also. We did a pinata and we watched the ball drop, we had those poppers and did those too. We had so much fun. I got to have fun with my cousins, aunts, uncles and my family. One other really fun thing that we did was that we went to my cousin's Nutcracker. She's been doing it since she was 5. She is 18 now and going off to college so that was her last one. We went to see that with our family and it was very good. I had lots of fun over winter break.

My vacation started off on a plane. We took Lufthansa flight to Munich, Germany. In Munich, we visited many tourist attractions such as the first ever Nazi concentration camp at Dachau. I learnt a lot about how torturous Hitler and his Nazi party were. The reason he hated the Jews was that he always wanted to be an artist but he could not go to the school that he wanted to go to and he blamed the Jews for it. People who already hated the Jews convinced him to hate the Jews and when he came to power, he did all this bad stuff.
ReplyDeleteThe next day my family and I went to a castle – Neuschwanstein Castle and learnt how this prince was fascinated with buildings so when he became a king, he spent all his money on building castles. This castle took almost 20 years to build and it was not finished when the king died. This was a beautiful castle and Walt Disney copied this castle for the Disney parks.
The following day was the last day we stayed and we had a tour of Munich’s downtown and learnt more about Hitler, learnt about the history of Munich and we saw the church where the current pope, Pope Benedict was the archbishop.
From Munich we went to Jaipur, India. There I met my grandparents, twin baby cousins, three more cousins, uncle, aunts, and other relatives. We had a family reunion and I also celebrated my birthday there.

ReplyDeleteI had two Christmases this year. At my Dad's house I got three legos, a book, and Lego Harry Potter wii. In Lego Harry Potter wii my specialty is finding students in peril. I am also good at finding character tokens. One of the legos that I got at my Dad's house is called Rotor. I built Rotor and he is called Rotor is because he has rotor and jet pack to make him fly. I also got a remote control helicopter. I am very good at flying it and good at maneuvering it. My Dad had two helicopters I have flown one that has a broken rotor. At my Mom's house we have second family living in the house and they had family over. My Mom got me a "How to Train Your Dragon" DVD that has a bonus disc with a bonus short is called "Legend of the Bone Napper Dragon". I also got a turbo tank lego that I built while everyone was dancing, singing and play music on Christmas Day.

That night I stayed up late played video games. The next day we went to the airport to get my cousin. His university is in New York and he flew on a plane to California. We started watching a movie on Netflix, a movie program. While I was staring at the TV, I heard a SURPRISE behind me. When I looked back I saw my friends from Austin! I was so surprised. They slept at our house for that night. The next week was a blast. Each day I was either at a sleep over or I was at a party. This was all because our friends came and everyone wanted to meet them. Then on Sunday we left for Lake Tahoe. We skied and played in the snow. A few days later our friends came. We had so much fun!

VLC, I did have a one on one snowball fight with my mom. She pushed me in piles of snow at least seven times. My hotel was literary was right next to the resort, if I jumped off the patio I was at the resort. So that night, my mom, and my 13 year old brother, three of his friends and me jumped out on the patio. My brother and his friends had an actual snowball fight, but my mom and I just laughed, threw snowballs and pushed each other in mounds of snow. But the day after that, I could not go outside because it was almost a blizzard. Sadly, they shut down the park and the next day I only got to ride down the hills in the morning because that day we were leaving.

Winter break
ReplyDeleteOn Friday,24 December my grandparents came and baked cookies with me and my sister Jordan. My favorite cookie was the gingerbread man! Then my mom made a yummy Christmas dinner,
that we shared with some friends. Me and my sister got lucky, we got to open one present! It was an awesome poster from my grandmother! It had pictures of me and my sister going to the summer camp that my grandmother owns!
The next day on Saturday, 25 (Christmas day) at 5:50 in the morning my sister and I woke up my grandparents! For the next hour and a half we all watched “Rudolph the red Nosed Reindeer”. Finally, my mom got up at 9:00 and she made some yummy blueberry scones! We ate them while we were opening gifts. My favorite gift was a blue benne that I got from Santa Claus. Later on at 1:00 we opened some more gifts with my dad. My favorite one was an I POD TOUCH! Then my dad made a yummy dinner! We had cheesy beans and stuffed potatoes! And for dessert we had homemade chocolate mousse and apple crisp! For dinner, we invited a lot of our friends and family.
Then on Monday,27 our grandparents flew us to San Diego! We stayed at the Torrey Pines hotel.. Then when we got to the hotel we got assorted to our room and then we went to the lamest amusement park in the world. We went to Lego land. It was soooooooooooooooo boring!
Then the next day on Tuesday,28 we went to the San Diego Zoo’s wild animal park. There we went in the back of this truck where we went through this enclosed area which was the animals habitat at the San Diego Zoo(they weren’t really in captivity ).We got to feed the giraffes and we got to take many pictures of them. It was really funny having a giraffe lick you in the back of your head!
Then on Wednesday,29 we went to SeaWorld, where we went on the ride “Journey to Atlantis”. The ride broke while we were waiting to get out. To me hearing that the ride broke was terrifying! I was so frightened while my sister and my grandfather were just sitting there like nothing was going on! Also at SeaWorld we saw a sea lion show. It was so funny! But, the best of all was the Orca Whale show! It was amazing! The orcas were doing flips and belly flops! Also, if you were in the splash zone (in the first 16 rows) you would get soaked!
The finale day in San Diego, we went to the San Diego Zoo. It’s not just any zoo, it’s a memorable zoo. Last year I did my Endangered Spices Report on the Galapagos Tortoise.
And guess what animal I got to see, the Galapagos Tortoise! I thought that the Galapagos Tortoise would be much smaller but, they were huge! They were like the size of a small boulder!
During the trip, on our free time when we weren’t going anywhere we played croquet and we watched the golfers play at the famous golf course. And sometimes my grandfather would teach us to play pool!
